The copperbird, so named after its discovery in 2019 by Dr Henry Marsden-Copper, is a flightless bird native to Philippines and (to a lesser extent) other areas of Southeast Asia. Notable for its ability to swallow objects whole in the manner more often associated with the python or other constrictive predator, the bird may vary widely in size, weight and indeed shape.

A common misconception about the species in non-naturalist society is its supposed predatorial nature, presumably having stemmed from its appearance after eating. In fact, the copperbird is a scavenger, having a reputation in its local Philippine communities for following the movements of military forces and picking excess nutrients from the ground behind them. Some have theorised that the species' recent population explosion was a direct effect of the San Jo conflicts across the region, though such a hypothesis has yet to be fully investigated by enthusiasts and continues to attract both interest and dismissal.

It is presumed that (should current trends in avian reproduction be maintained) the bird will come to be the dominant scavenger in its habitat by 2050; however, wide debate exists over whether such increases in population will in fact continue, accounting for environmental alterations and competition from better adapted species.
